Montargis -- mix of Old and New

With Friday behind and overseas visitors heading home, I sojourn to: Montargis. A town developed along the banks of the; River Loing and the Briare Canal.

One of the two Tea houses in town:.....

It also has a rich modern affiliation with early Chinese Communism.
"Long before he reshaped world history by setting Communist China on a capitalist course, the teenage Deng Xiaoping made shoes at a rubber plant in Montargis. It was during his formative French years that the Chinese leader, who died in 1997, first dabbled with revolution and developed a taste for croissants." .... "Montargis in the 1920s was home to several hundred Chinese who came to work and study and, for the most socially and politically conscious, to explore ways to modernize China by learning from the West. The movement was called "Qingong jianxue," or diligent work, thrifty study."

Closing the week - ready for the weekend

A busy week with visitors from: US, Korea and Taiwan.
A 3,200 kg crate (1 of 2) is ready to ship to US .. I'll be there in a week for the unpacking ...Sun flowers, forsaken by their namesake, summer is on the ebb tide, with overcast, drizzly days making their appearance.
Clouds drift over the Loire:...

Fortunately the wild flowers are in abundance:
Note: NEVER buy/use a plastic kettle ... my replacement in place and working well..
Taking the road less travelled can be fun ..

The "New Chateaux" with a Maritime museum on the property ..
Then into; Vitry-aux Loges to pick up a few odds and ends,

JAFC .. just another French Chateaux (small) ....
from there to; Sury-aux Bois for a: Blown Rear Tire !!!!! MERDE.
.... a lot of fun in France on a Sunday afternoon. No problem, it’s a rental .. drove it like I stole it back to the Inn at Combreux.
8:00 am Monday the tow truck arrives, promised to be ready at noon, picked it up at 2:00 pm.

One for Terry ...

Time to buy and carry the bread .....

Briare town - Loire Valley

On to; Briare, my destination “de jour” , famous for the: Canal de Briare, one of the oldest in France. This canal crosses OVER the River Loire.
South East from Gein, as you enter this picturesque town, you are left in no doubt as to what drives the local economy.
Activities are centered around the canal and boating.

A tourist barge heads off to cross the Loire River

As you head through town .. a pleasant square and cafe:.....

She found a shady spot to sketch the ornate canal architecture.

Weekend at last ..first stop Gien

Saturday was 100% picture perfect, clear blue sky, warm sun, fresh air .. the Loire Valley at its best. I drove down the Loire to; Gien then onto Briare.
Saturday morning in Geian the open market brings all types, merchandise ranges from: “Cheap Crap” to first rate foods; Farm produce, Meats and Cheeses.

The old city has plenty of charm and much for the tourist.
